Slider

Deployment with slider at 50 mph

Slow-motion of deployment
with slider at 50 mph

Soft Deploy your chute

How It Works:

Chute deployment is the most violent phase of flight. Excess speed tears & shreds chutes. The Slider softens deployment by opening the chute gradually & stops the chute from "popping" open. At the instant of deployment, it slides down the shrouds, making the chute open a fraction of a second later - -enough to make all the difference.

TAC-Bag Unfolded

TAC-Bag Diagram

Diagram

Deployment Bag from the makers of the TAC Parachutes!

The TAC-Bag has a 1" tubular nylon shock cord running through it so that the TAC-Bag itself does not carry any load. The TAC-Bag also has keepers to neatly hold the shroud line.

NOTE: The keepers are elastic, not solid nylon which can hang up shroud lines.

The TAC-Bag is made of Kevlar™ which is more heat resistant than Nomex™. It offers amazing protection. All sewn with Kevlar™ thread.

...Only the best from TAC!!

Hands down, the most advanced Deployment Bag on the market.

How the TAC-Bag works:

The TAC-Bag is a deployment bag that manages a controlled chute deployment. It is sized for TAC chutes. Using other chutes is not recommended since sizes vary. Fold the TAC-chute and place in TAC-Bag as per the folding instructions on TAC-chute.

There are two deployment options:

Integrated and Free Bag. Refer to the diagram above to determine the attachment method. When attaching chute, be sure to use hardware suitable for the weight of the rocket and the anticipated force of deployment. Never use open eyebolts at an attachment point when using TAC-9 chutes. And be sure to ground test your system to be sure that the chute deploys out of the TAC-Bag.

With the Integrated method, be sure to attach the nylon on the open end of the TAC-Bag to the apex of the TAC-chute. Attach the other end to the cord connecting to the pilot chute. Remember, a pilot chute must be large enough to pull the TAC-chute out of the TAC-Bag.

The Free Bag method allows the two halves of the rocket to descent separately, each with its own chute. Here the chute for the top half of the rocket acts as the pilot chute to pull the TAC-Bag away from the TAC-chute. Be sure NOT to attach the TAC-Bag to the TAC-chute it encloses.

You must use parachute protector pads for the deployment bag and for all other recovery components such as pilot chutes and so forth.

TECH NOTE: Why use a Deployment Bag?

Most believe that deployment bags are used for all around heat protection. True, but that's only part of the story. The main purpose of a deployment bag is for "controlled deployment".

Note in the picture above how the chute is neatly contained in the bag and how the elastic keepers hold the shroud lines. The chances of a tangle or a fouled chute are drastically reduced with the proper use of a deployment bag.

Basically, it's the next step up in recovery, and many fliers take great pride in mastering this more advanced level of recovery. If you've got a serious investment sitting on the pad, or you've got a certification attempt on the line, or you're just ready to move to a more advanced level in the hobby, try a deployment bag. It's a way to move beyond the standard practice of ejecting a rolled up ball of material and shock cord out the tube at blistering speeds and hoping for the best.

There's a better way, and it's called the TAC-Bag. Why is the TAC-Bag better? For one, it's made of Kevlar™, not Nomex™, so the heat rating is higher. Also, compare the construction of the TAC-Bag with other bags. The TAC-Bag is round - - like an airframe - - not square. What's the sense in making a square bag for a round hole? Also, the keepers are elastic and that is really important because they easily release the shroud lines. Careful, non-elastic keepers can bind the shroud lines.

There are four different bags to choose from:

Diagram - How the Fireball works

Diagram - How the Fireball works

The Zipper Stopper!!

The Fireball helps prevent Zippers by cushioning airframes from the severe shock of ejection. It softens and spreads the destructive force of shock cords on the lip of your airframe.

100% Kevlar™ - so it's Fire-Resistant and
S-T-R-O-N-G.

Zippers are linear airframe fractures caused by the impact of shock cords on the lip of your rocket airframe during deployment. They are among the most common forms of damage to high power rockets. Zippers are frustrating, time-consuming, and extremely costly. Many certifications attempts have been lost due to zipper damage.

The Fireball cushions your airframe against this destructive force.

The Fireball cushions the impact of the shock cord against the lip of your airframe

Like buying insurance for your rocket!

Features:

  • Spreads the load of deployment to help prevent zippers.

  • Made of Kevlar™ so it’s heat-resistant and incredibly strong.

  • Tubular Kevlar™ shock cord [Large: 1/2” 5500 lbs Test]. [Small: 1/4” 3000 lbs Test].

  • Nomex™ sewn loops in Kevlar™. Shock Cord are stronger than the cord itself.

  • Stainless steel clamps that won’t rust or tarnish.

  • High density foam - not a wimpy Nurf-ball that bottoms out & cracks airframes.

  • Super light weight - not a heavy tennis ball which shatters your airframe.

  • Saves weight - no need for beefy & heavy anti-zipper rocket construction.

  • Neatly packaged with clear instructions

  • Nomex™ sewn loop is stronger than the cord itself!

Parachute Protectors

2,000 Degree Chute Protectors of Kevlar®

Chute Pads of Kevlar® to protect your chutes!

All chute protectors are not the same! Our Kevlar® pads offer superior protection. The performance of chute protectors can vary, click here to read about the Chute Protector Comparison and Tests.

Kevlar® has a higher heat rating than Nomex® and is more resistant to tearing and blow-through.. Protect your rocket with Kevlar® Airframe size price.

TECH NOTE: To protect against hot ejection gases, rocketeers use a variety of methods. Some use cellulose. It's cheap, but it's not reliable - - gases can bleed through and burn recovery systems. It's also messy and very inconvenient - - you have to drag a bag of cellulose around. After all that money and time spent on your rocket, don't you want more protection than a handful of shredded paper? Some have also used fiberglass insulation. Never Do This!!! Fiberglass is non-biodegradable and it's fatal when ingested by cattle. Harming the property of landowners or their neighbors can deprive prefectures of their launch sites. It's bad for the hobby's image.

Instead, rocketeers have discovered Kevlar®, a flameproof material used by firefighters and others. chute pads of Kevlar® have a buttonhole (over 1” wide) to allow the shock cord to pass through, so it forms a permanent part of your recovery system. Just fold your chute normally, slide the pad up the shock cord and cradle it around the chute. Insert chute into rocket with the Kevlar® facing the ejection charge. That's it! The pads are inexpensive, and they last virtually forever. And they'll take a direct blast of ejection charge with no harm done. Compared to a piston, CHUTE PADS of Kevlar® are much lighter, less expensive, don't take up space, and are maintenance-free. They are our most popular product. The SLEEVE of Kevlar® is an install-and-forget item. It protects nylon shock cords from ejection gases. A burned or brittle nylon cord will eventually snap. Why are Giant Leap's products of Kevlar® great?

Ours are made with Kevlar®, which has a higher heat rating than Nomex®. Kevlar® prevents tearing and blow-through which can damage a chute.

Ours pads are rounded, not square. Square pads don't fold well in round tubes and increase the chances of blow-by.

Our pads have the button hole offset to the side. There are no holes or rings in the center, so you get maximum protection where you need it most.

Ours are inexpensive.

Shock Cords

You know that little white elastic band that's used for a shock cord...? ...It belongs in your underpants.

OUR shock cords...? ...they belong in your rocket!!

TECH NOTE: Our suggestions may not fit your application. Never use “elastic” cords. Elastic cords store the energy of separation and release it by slamming the rocket parts back together, damaging your rocket. Also, elastic-type cords have low breaking strengths. Elastic is for underpants, not for high power rockets. Instead, use a generous amount of non-stretch cord and let air resistance absorb the energy of release. We recommend 15+ feet of cord for up to 4” diameter rockets, and 20+ feet for larger rockets.

Swivels

Stops your chute lines from tangling!

TECH NOTE: Tangled shroud lines reduce the effectiveness of chutes. Rockets twist and turn during descent, even in the slightest wind, which makes the shroud lines tangle around each other. This causes the chute to narrow, reducing its drag, and increasing the overall rate of descent rate. The result is a hard landing which cracks fins and airframes, and can jam motors up into motor tubes. Your solution is a swivel. This allows the rocket to rotate during descent without twisting the shrouds lines together. Here’s another tip: when packing the chute for flight, most people hold the chute in one hand and wrap the lines around the chute with other hand. That’s incorrect and will cause the shrouds to twist together. Instead lay the chute on a flat surface and extend the shroud lines out. Then roll the chute onto the shroud lines.

Happy Landings!!
